Dr Pierre Chartrand

Dr Pierre Chartrand has been appointed VP research at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), effective September 5. Chartrand comes to CIHR from the Univ of Montreal where he was CEO of the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer and a professor in the department of pathology and cellular biology. One of his first tasks will be to address observations made by the International Review Panel which recently completed the first external review of CIHR (R$, July 7/06). As a board member of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ), Chartrand led the reorganization of its Cancer Network and became its director.
