Dr Chad Gaffield

Dr Chad Gaffield has been selected as the new president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Gaffield is a full professor in the faculty of arts and former director of the Institute of Canadian Studies at the Univ of Ottawa, an organization he founded in 1997. He currently holds a Canada Research Chair examining the role of language in the making of Canadian society. Gaffield holds an BA and MA from McGill Univ and a PhD from the Univ of Toronto. Gaffield officially replaces Dr Marc Renaud, who left SSHRC more than a year ago. Renaud was replaced on an interim basis by Dr Stan Shapson, York Univ's VP research and innovation and Dr Janet Halliwell became chief operating officer and handled day-to-day operations. Gaffield will take up his new duties effective immediately....
