Dr Norm Campbell is the inaugural recipient of the newly established Chair in Hypertension Prevention and Control. Campbell, a professor of medicine at the Univ of Calgary, has dedicated much of his career to exploring hypertension and plans a multi-faceted approach for its prevention. This includes the formation of a consortium of organizations and concerned scientists to lobby the federal government and the food industry for policies to reduce the indiscriminate addition of salt to food. The chair is a Canadian first and will receive $900,000 in funding over five years from the Canadian Hypertension Society, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canada's Research-based Pharmaceutical Companies, Sanofi-Aventis and Blood Pressure Canada....
