Kevin Fitzgibbons has been appointed executive director of the office of the new National Science Advisor, effective May 1, the first employee to be hired in support of Dr Arthur Carty. Fitzgibbons comes to the NSA office within the Privy Council Office from the National Research Council, which he joined in 1991. Most recently he held the position of officer of strategic planning and policy. He will be responsible for bringing staff levels up to six people in short order and managing the key elements of the NSA’s near-term agenda: commercialization of research and technology, international science and a review of federal S&T and research investments made to date….

TRLabs has made two key executive appointments. Dr John McRory has been appointed acting VP research, moving up from his previous position as director of its Calgary operations. The 13-year TRLabs veteran will be responsible in the near term for a review of its research program to align it with the current marketplace. McRory has a BSc in electrical engineering from the Univ of Alberta. Jeff Rohne has been appointed director of TRLabs’ Manitoba operations. The veteran telecom executive began his career in 1968 at Bell Canada and spent 30 years at Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. Rohne holds a diploma in electronics engineering technology from Red River College. Both positions are effective April 1....
