Venture capital investment showing modest gains

Venture capital (VC) investment show modest gains in Q2/10 but fundraising remains a serious concern according to the latest data from Thompson Reuters and Canada's Venture Capital & Private Equity Association. Investment was up 57% to $334 million from the same quarter last year, bringing the 2010 half-year total to $643 million. That compares to $492 million in 2009, $712 million in 2008 and $1 billion in 2007. Despite the gains, however, the gap between Canada and the US remains wide as the Canadian market continues to be outpaced by its US counterpart by a factor of 35. Q2/10 was characterized by larger deals (average $3.1 million vs $2 million last year) with 107 firms receiving financing....
