The Univ of Western Ontario has secured an $800,000 research project from General Dynamics Land Systems — Canada (GDLS-Canada) to assess ballistic materials for the manufacture of lighter, safer military vehicles. Dr Jeff Wood of UWO’s faculty of engineering will lead a research team of graduate students to test and analyze advanced composite materials to assess ballistics and weight characteristics. The intent of the research is to determine whether the materials will absorb the energy of impact from potential dangers such as landmines. The project will also attract federal funding, bringing the total of the project to more than $1 million. GDLS-Canada is a subsidiary of GDLS, Sterling Heights MI....
