Pulp and paper researchers at McGill Univ will benefit from the creation of two new industrial research chairs with $3 million over five years from Science and Engineering Research Canada (NSERC) and the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (PAPRICAN). Each organization is providing $1.5 million, while PAPRICAN is contributing in-kind resources for the research and dissemination of results. Chairholder Dr Theo ven de Ven will conduct research into the chemistry of paper while it is still wet and being formed, while Dr Derek Gray will explore novel properties and uses of wood fibre by examining how cellulose fibres bond in paper sheets.
