Stantec buys Pittsburgh architecture firm

Stantec Inc has purchased Pittsburgh PA-based Burt Hill for a reported $38 million, bringing the number of acquisitions this year to eight. Edmonton-based Stantec — one of Canada's leading engineering design and consulting firms — now has a workforce of nearly 11,000. Burt Hill is an architectural firm with more than 600 employees in 13 offices and is focused on school and health-care facility design. It is considered key to Stantec's international expansion plans, as was its previous acquisition of San Francisco-based Anshen + Allen, which also has a strong presence in the UK. Stantec has been profitable since its inception in 1954 and had revenues of $1.5 billion in 2009….
