Senator Yves Morin has been appointed special advisor on health research to Health Canada and minister Alan Rock. He will have a multi-faceted role as an advisor, working with senior officials and the minister to determine appropriate future funding levels for health research and to help enhance the profile of health research in conjunction with advances in health and economic innovation. He will also be accessible to officials of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) in preparation for scenarios and plans for health research and information, and liaise with Health Canada chief scientists Dr Kevin Keough to ensure transparency and coordination of strategies and communications. Morin has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in research, medicine and academia. Prior to being appointed to the Senate, he was vice chair of Health Canada’s science advisory board and a member of the governing council of CIHR.
