Dr Marc Garneau

Dr Marc Garneau has been appointed president of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), replacing Mac Evans who is retiring from the public service after 35 years. Effective November 22, the appointment is Canada’s first astronaut to go into space, making three flights before taking on executive responsibilities at the CSA. Garneau received a BSc from the Royal Military College in Kingston ON and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology in London. Ten years into a 15-year career in the navy, he was seconded to the Canadian Astronaut Program in 1984 and flew the same year as a payload specialist. Other flights followed in 1996 and 2000.
