Opposition growing to Alberta health research cuts

Alberta's top health research managers are speaking out against the $22-million cut delivered in the last provincial Budget to Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions. The cut, part of a $45-million reduction in Alberta Innovates funding, will result in fewer training grants for post-secondary researchers. The cut was achieved by reducing the amount the province draws annually from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research endowment fund from $69 million to $47 million. The province is also moving forward with the consolidation of the four Alberta Innovates corporations into a single organization to ease navigation of the provincial funding system and realize efficiencies (R$, May 18/16
