Nuclear materials testing laboratory set to open

A new $17-million Reactor Materials Testing Laboratory (RMTL) at Queen's Univ is awaiting final commissioning this year to assist in advancing the safety and economy of nuclear power. The facility uses a proton accelerator to test materials for stress and temperature when inside a nuclear reactor that could lead to design changes to make them safer and more efficient. RMTL was funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, in-kind donations and matching funding from partners of the university including other institutions and nuclear science organizations.
