The National Research Council (NRC) will invest $25-million in a new Advanced Materials Manufacturing Centre (AMMC) to be co-located at the campus of Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) in Mississauga ON. The announcement was among a flurry of press releases released prior to the August 2nd call for a federal election. The AMMC augments and amplifies NRC's collaboration with Xerox through the printable electronics flagship program, a $57-million, five-year initiative launched in 2012 (R$, September 10/13). Funding for the facility comes from a $380-million commitment to federal laboratories announced last fall (R$, October 14/14). The AMMC will provide state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate collaboration among NRC and Xerox researchers on materials chemistry, formulation design, prototyping, testing and chemical process engineering. Aimed to close the gap between the lab and industry-scale manufacturing, AMMC is expected to benefit the product commercialization and new market segments for companies in the automotive, medical, aerospace and defence sectors....
