The National Research Council and Agrisoma Biosciences Inc are merging technologies to develop uses for low-emission agricultural bioproducts for energy production. The five-year project will focus on open access intellectual property for industry and is expected to improve production and crop yields for oilseeds such as canola and mustard. The collaboration between the NRC's Plant Biotechnology Institute (PBI) and Agrisoma will use gene discovery and gene expression technologies to create new crop varieties engineered for biofuel production and renewable manufacturing feedstock. Founded in 2001, Agrisoma developed Engineered Trait Loci gene expression technology as a client at the NRC's Industry Partnership facility in Saskatoon. The crops will use less land and generate more consistent, stable
