The second phase of the multi-agency The Think Tank Initiative is providing US$35 million to 28 think tanks or independent policy research institutions in Latin America and South Asia. The funding is being provided by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The successful recipients were chosen from more than 300 proposals designed to build policy making capacity in developing nations. The Think Tank Initiative was launched in 2008 and provided $30 million in grants last year to 24 think tanks in East and West Africa. Grants provide up to 30% of an institution's total budget during the funding period. IDRC is contributing $14 million to the initiative's overall $110-million budget. FMI: www.idrc.ca/thinktank....
