The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is using the election campaign to renew its call for a 10-year funding commitment from the federal government for a strategic partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The JDRF first made the recommendation last June before the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. Now it is the centerpiece of Project Head Start, a campaign to make Canada's electoral candidates more aware of the organization and its activities. JDRF is currently establishing a clinical trial network with CIHR for type 1 diabetes research and wants $125 million over the first five years followed by another five-year funding round.
