Gordon Nixon is joining the board of directors of MaRS, a non-profit innovation centre in Toronto with a strong life sciences focus, and will succeed founding board chair Dr John Evans in 2009. Nixon is president and CEO of the Royal Bank of Canada and one of three new board appointments to MaRS. The others are: Geoffrey Matus, president of Mandukwe and chairman of Cidel Bank & Trust Inc, Tricon Capital Group Inc, Next Gen Financial Services LP and Biltrite Industries, and William White, president of DuPont Canada. Stepping down from the MaRS board are Dr Howard Alper, Felix Chee and Dr Ron Venter….

Two new members have been appointed to the governing council of the National Research Council. Dr Khris-tinn Leitch is a medical researcher at the Univ of Western Ontario. She is assistant dean (external), chief/chair paediatric surgery and assistant professor, paediatric orthopaedics at the department of surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Leitch also holds positions at the Richard Ivey School of Business and Lawson Research Institute. Dr Allan Warrack is a professor emeritus with the Univ of Alberta's department of marketing, business economics and law within the faculty of business....

The governing council of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council has two new members. Diane Hébert is a legal consultant with her own private practice. She previously worked for GE Commercial Finance, Equipment Financing, holding the position of director VP legal affairs and senior VP and general counsel. Suzana Kovacic is a research associate with Simon Fraser Univ's department of physics. Prior to her appointment to the physics department, she was a microscopy and imaging consultant with the university's Institute of Health Research and Education...
