Dr Sylvain Charbonneau is leaving the National Research Council (NRC) for academia, less than a year after being appointed executive director of its new printable electronics platform program. A 25-year veteran of the NRC, Charbonneau takes up new responsibilities on April 15th at the Univ of Ottawa as associate VP research. He graduated with a PhD in semiconductor physics from Simon Fraser Univ and joined the NRC's Institute for Microstructural Sciences (IMS) the same year in 1988. As director of IMS's components technologies in the early 2000s, he spearheaded the push for the establishment of the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre and led its subsequent management and operation, as well as other groups within the institute.
