Dr Stephen Robbins has been appointed scientific director of the CIHR Institute of Cancer Research, replacing Dr Morag Park. Robbins holds several positions at the Univ of Calgary including associate professor in the departments of oncology and biochemistry and molecular biology and director of the South Alberta Cancer Research Institute. He joined the university in 1996 after training at the Univ of California San Francisco in the lab of Nobel Prize winner Dr Michael Bishop. Robbins' research has led to defining new therapies for malaria and discovery of a novel class of anti-inflammatory agents and therapeutic targets for brain tumours.
