Dr Molly Shoichet has been awarded the 2015 L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award — one of five awarded globally for achievement in the physical sciences. Shoichet is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering and professor of chemical engineering and applied chemistry, chemistry and biomaterials and biomedical engineering at the Univ of Toronto. She is best known for pioneering work creating 3D patterns in hydrogels enabling the regeneration of nerve tissue. Alberta health research pioneer Dr Cy Frank has died suddenly at age 65. Frank was a major force in the province's health sector for more than 30 years as a surgeon, a leader in the transformation of Alberta's health system and, most recently, president and CEO of Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions.
