Dr Gordon McBean was elected president of the International Council for Science (ISCU) at its recent general assembly in Rome. McBean is the first ISCU Canadian president since the Paris-based organization was formed in 1931. Under ISCU rules, he will first join the executive board before occupying the president's position beginning in 2014. McBean was a lead author of the 2007 report by the International Panel on Climate Change and is currently chair of the board of trustees for the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences. He is also a professor at the Univ of Western Ontario in the departments of political science and geography and holder of the Research Chair at the university's Institute of Catastrophic Loss Reduction related to climate change....
