Agencies fund collaborative microbiome research

Federal, provincial and not-for-profit research funding agencies are collaborating to provide $15.4 million to support microbiome research to develop new detection methods and treatment options for several chronic diseases. The Canadian Institutes of Health Research is providing $10 million with the remaining $1.4 million coming from Genome British Columbia, Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. The funding will support seven research teams in Ontario, BC, Alberta and Nova Scotia.
