York to develop tech education program

York Univ has received a $444,000 grant to develop a Bachelor of Education in Technological Education to attract new technological educators into the system. The grant from the Ontario government's Technological Teacher Education Collaborative Initiatives Fund will help York develop a new program with a flexible learning environment for those in the workforce and would like to teach in the field. A recent survey found that 50% of existing tech ed teachers are slated to retire in the next five to 10 years. The initiative will also provide part-time offerings, greater access for Aboriginal students, French language instruction, online course and courses based on geographical need. New program pathways will be introduced in the 2017-18 academic year....
