Synapse being sold to CA-based BioMarin

Vancouver’s Synapse Technologies Inc is being acquired by BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc, Novato CA for $15.9 million and up to $8 million contingent of certain development milestones. BioMarin will use Synapse’s technology to deliver therapeutics enzymes to the brain for treatment of lysosomal storage disorders. Synapse’s technology was originally developed by Dr Wilfred Jeffries of the Univ of British Columbia and the firm has been supported by several Canadian venture capital firms. BioMarin recently received follow-on public financing of US$96 million....
