Universities receive $13.5 million for IP management

Canada’s three granting councils have announced $13.5 million in awards for intellectual property (IP) management. to more than 50 universities and research institutions. The three-year awards — ranging from $1 million to $78,000 — are intended to accelerate the transfer of knowledge and technology from universities and hospitals by strengthening IP management, attracting potential users and promoting the professional development of IP personnel. Institutions receiving the awards are also required to provide cash or in-kind contributions, but these amounts are not included in the total. Awards are made based on the appropriateness of the institution’s strategy, clarity of specific objectives and feasibility of the plans. The latest awards mark the first time the the granting councils have jointly funded the awards. The program was previously delivered solely by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council as part of its Research Partnerships Program....
