Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC has invested $3 million in McLeod Harvest Inc, an R&D-intensive company that has developed a new grain harvesting system. The Winnipeg-based firm is undertaking a $10-million project to accelerate development of a two-part system consisting of a field harvester and a stationary cleaning mill. In addition to harvesting grain, the system also captures weed seeds, broken kernels, chaff and other material called millings which are used to make low-cost animal feed. The system will reduce exposure to fluctuating animal feed prices and is being aimed at smaller farm operations, particularly family run niche operations.
