Ottawa-based Thermal Energy International Inc (TEI) will be demonstrating its emissions reductions technologies on a coal-fired power plant in Guangzou China, in a collaboration with South China Univ of Technology (SCUT). The two-year, non-exclusive agreement will see TEI develop industrial applications for its technology in a joint R&D laboratory, with the university contributing funding and covering testing costs. TEI conducted lab tests in Canada showing that its technology can remove 98% of nitrous oxide emissions from a simulated gas flu stream. SCUT will also assist in marketing the technology throughout China. China plans to activate 562 new coal-fired power plants this year alone — half the world's new planned capacity. More than 80% of China's power comes from coal....
