Somomax Technologies Inc and École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) have established an Industrial Research Chair to develop new in-ear auditory technologies. Montreal-based Somomax will provide $750,000 over five years and the chair will be held by Dr Jeremy Voix, former research director at Somomax. In addition to giving Somomax access to highly-skilled graduates and ETS' acoustical research infrastructure, the chair's objective is to give the firm direction on its long-term R&D investment for acoustical and electro-acoustical technologies. That entails combining existing in-ear technologies in one so-called bionic ear. Somomax wants to expand its market focus from industrial and military to include consumer, music and medical applications.
