The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) has opened a facility in Mbour Senegal, the second in a planned network of 15 centres. The facility — part of the AIMS-Next Einstein Initiative (NEI) — will have an inaugural class of 36 from 14 countries who were chosen from 350 applicants to the Senegal and Cape Town South Africa centre, which opened in 2003. AIM-NEI is supported by public and private sources including the International Development Research Centre, which provided $20 million (R$, July 19/10).
