The Ultra-Deep Mining Network (UDMN) has issued a call for proposals (CFP) for its Think Deep Program that could see up to $46 million injected into near-term R&D or technology adoption projects for tools and technologies used in ultra-deep mines (below 2.5 km). UDMN received $15 million over five years from the Business-Led Networks of Centres of Excellence program (R$, February 10/14). It could commit the full amount through the CFP, depending on the quality and quantity of the projects received, and whether they include sufficient industry matching dollars. Aimed at commercialization and pre-commercialization projects, the pan-Canadian program is guided by four themes: rock stress risk reduction, energy reduction and optimization, novel methods of material transport and productivity and improved human health.
