Texas venture capitalist Laura Kilcrease has been appointed CEO of the recently consolidated Alberta Innovates Corp (AIC) (R$, May 18/16). Kilcrease is the founder and managing director of Austin TX-based Triton Ventures and a key player in Austin’s diversification away from oil and gas and the spectacular growth of its high tech sector. She has more than 25 years of experience fostering collaboration among industry, government and academia and was instrumental in establishing the Austin Technology Incubator, Capital Network angel network and the Austin Software Council. An AIC press release describes Kilcrease as the agency’s “chief relationship developer”, reporting to the AIC board and assisting innovators in the province’s emerging technology sectors as well as health, environment, energy, food and forestry/fibre. She replaces interim CEO Pamela Valentine who will take the role of AIC’s executive VP strategic planning and initiatives once Kilcrease moves to Edmonton “in the coming weeks”.
