Paul Heinbecker is resigning his post as Canadian ambassador to the United Nations to accept joint appointments with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and Wilfred Laurier Univ in Waterloo beginning January 1. Heinbecker’s career with the Foreign Service dates back nearly 40 years. His posts included chief foreign policy advisor and speech writer to former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, minister in Washington (1985-89) and ambassador to Germany (1992-96). CIGI is an independent research and policy centre established in July 2002 to support improvements in multilateral governance.
