Ontario Genomics drops "Institute" from its name

The Ontario Genomics Institute has dropped the "Institute" from its name to reflect the evolving nature of its work. After 15 years of operation, Ontario Genomics (OG) is now solidly industry facing, focused on identifying and securing sources of financing to assist in research translation and commercialization. In addition to securing federal provincial and other sources of funding and seeking industry input to help identify company needs, OG focuses on connecting companies in seven sectors — health, agriculture, bio-products, forestry, water, mining, and energy. To date OG has secured $333 million from Genome Canada for projects whose budgets total more than $1 billion. In addition to funding research, OG also helps to make firms investment-ready by funding proof-of-concept projects for early-stage, R&D-intensive firms….
