NRC'S E-COMMERCE INSTITUTE ANNOUNCED FOR FREDERICTON

The National Research Council (NRC) has announced that the Univ of New Brunswick in Fredericton will be the home of its new E-Commerce Institute. The institute's research budget for the next five years has been set at $37 million, followed by operating costs of $7.8 million annually. Funding is being provided under the recently announced Atlantic Investment Partnership ($25 million), the Province of New Brunswick ($6 million) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency ($6 million). The Institute will have 60 full time staff including researchers, technical officers and support staff. As many as 40 guests workers, visiting scientists, students and industrial workers are also expected to participate. It will collaborate with existing NRC institutes and programs, including the Industrial Research Assistance Program, the Canadian Technology Network and the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information. The E-Commerce Institute is part of the NRC's strategic initiatives and regional clusters strategy. To date, it has only received enough funding for partial implementation....
