InterDigital Communications Corp, Philadelphia PA, has established a laboratory in Montreal for 3-G (third generation) wireless technologies. InterDigital Canada Ltée will be headed up by Michel Desgagné, formerly a senior manager with Ericsson Canada conducting 3-G research for radio access networks. The laboratory will start with 10 engineers and increase to 30 by 2003 and will work on three wireless technology standards — W-CDMA, FDD and TDD. Desgagné will use his experience of interacting with area universities to establish at least one university collaboration by the end of the year.
