Latest chairs announcement brings total to 448

The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program has announced support for an additional 97 chairs at 34 universities, bring the total awarded to date to 448. The new chairs are being funded at a total of $98 million, with another $19.6 million in infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. With nearly one quarter of the proposed 2000 chairs now in place, a clear image of the diversity of research expertise is beginning to emerge. The complete slate of chairs is expected to be in place by 2005 and the next announcement of chair holders is slated for early in 2002.
