Univ of New Brunswick has appointed industry executive Joe Allen as managing director of its accelerator programs at the J. Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management & Entrepreneurship.
Prior to his appointment, Allen was director of investments for the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, where he was responsible for managing a portfolio of about 50 venture capital investments with a market capitalization of $60 million across multiple sectors. In his new position, Allen is responsible for the centre’s Summer Institute and the Energia Ventures accelerator for startups in clean energy, cybersecurity and smart grid sectors. The centre has produced more than 70 startups over the past five years and has been recognized by Startup Canada. Allen also serves as a corporate director for a number of startup ventures. A chartered accountant, he worked in economic development in New Brunswick for a number of years. He is a 2002 graduate of UNB’s Bachelor of Business Administration program.
