Two multilateral roundtables were held in Edmonton and Toronto to gauge the potential for combining R&D expertise in water quality and management technologies and developing business-based solutions. Convened by International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTP Canada), the roundtables brought together representatives from Canada, India and Israel, with the Edmonton event attracting the participation of the US and China. Using the existing tri-lateral Canada-Israel-China agreement as a template, organizers hope that the meetings will result in similar agreements that can be leveraged for additional funding. Israeli expertise in water recycling was highlighted, as Israel recovers two-thirds of its water for re-use compared to 20% in other countries where water reclamation is a priority. In Edmonton, the roundtable was hosted by the Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence at the Gold Bar waste water treatment plant operated by Epcor Utilities.
