Industrial R&D projected to increase 5% in 2011

Statistics Canada is reporting that industrial R&D is projected to increase 5% in 2011 from 2010 levels to $15.646 billion. The top six performing industry sectors are projected to increase 7%, driven by a 21.4% increase in R&D spending on communications equipment. All other sectors are slated to increase by 3.1%. The top performing sectors and their 2011 spending estimates are: scientific R&D services ($1.7 billion), communications equipment ($1.4 billion), aerospace products and parts ($1.4 billion), wholesale trade ($1.3 billion), information and cultural industries ($1.2 billion) and computer system design and related services ($1.1 billion). All other sectors spent the remaining $7.6 billion….
