The Atlantic Innovation Fund (AIF) is contributing $13.1 million over five years to the $39 million cost of the Inco Innovation Centre at Memorial Univ. The proposal for the Centre was submitted by Inco Ltd, Toronto, as part of the second round of competitions for the AIF, which is administered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Inco is contributing $20 million to the project which will focus on mining innovation and technology commercialization. More than 40 researchers will work on a variety of earth sciences and process engineering projects, and initially focus on the Voisey’s Bay mining project as a test bed for new mineral technologies and services. Additional revenue is anticipated from the sale or licensing of new technologies to mineral companies and industrial support services.
