Glen Murray has been appointed minister of the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI), effective August 18th. A former mayor of Winnipeg, Murray was president and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute prior his election to the provincial legislature in a 2010 by-election. He received a diploma from John Abbott College and attended Concordia Univ for four years majoring in urban studies. He also has a long history of activism in urban planning, sustainable development, community health and gay rights. He was chair of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy. Murray is the fourth minister to hold the position since MRI was created in 2005.
