The secretariat for the Global Health Research Initiative (GHRI) has been closed. Housed at the International Development Research Centre, GHRI is a multi-funder initiative between IDRC, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. The partners will continue to work on the Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa program — part of the prime minister's signature international development initiative. Launched with great fanfare in 2001, GHRI aimed at improving the so-called "10-90 gap" whereby 10% of global health R&D is allocated to 90% of the world's health problems (R$, January 23/02).
