Four NCEs approved for seven more years

Four Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) have passed their first cycle reviews and are eligible for another seven years of funding. The renewed Networks are: Canadian Arthritis Network (CAN), Canadian Institute for Photonic Innovations (CIPI), Geomatics for Informed Decisions (GEOIDE) and Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS). The second cycle of seven-year funding begins April 1/05 and is subject to further review in the fourth year. The NCE has also announced the results of applications for funding under its Research Management Fund, which helps to fund networking activities of NCEs near the end of their 14-year funding envelope. The Canadian Genetic Diseases Network (CGDN) and the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (IRIS) were approved for funding. The Protein Engineering Network of Centres of Excellence (PENCE) also applied and was unsuccessful (R$, April 26/04)....
