Drew Lyall

Drew Lyall has been appointed to the newly created position of director, partnership engagement at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) responsible for commercialization, partnerships and public engagement. Lyall comes to CIHR from the Stem Cell Network of Centres of Excellence (SCN) where he has served as executive director since 2001. SCN is 12.5 years into its 14-year mandate and will be looking for a replacement to take it through to the end of its term. With SCN, Lyall became known for bold initiatives such as the launch of Aggregate Therapeutics Inc (R$, July 16/04) and the spin-off of the Canadian Stem Cell Foundation (R$, October 26/09). Prior to SCN, he was an executive for two start-up companies and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the areas of insolvency and management consulting. Lyalls holds a BA in politics, philosophy and economics from the Univ of Oxford and is both a chartered accountant (UK) and certified management consultant (Canada) He recently completed the Stanford Executive Program….

The tri-Council Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics has announced four new members. They are: Carolyn Ells, as associate professor of medicine at McGill Univ, Veronica Stinson, a professor of psychology at St Mary's Univ, Lehana Thabane, as associate professor at McMaster Univ's department of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics and Brent Windwick, a health care lawyer and adjunct assistant professor at the Univ of Alberta's faculty of medicine and dentistry and faculty of pharmacy.
