Dr Stephen Moran has been appointed president and CEO of the Centre for Research in Earth and Space Technology (CRESTech). Moran comes to the Ontario Centres of Excellence program from Alberta where was a key player in developing that province’s innovation strategy. He held a variety of senior positions within the government’s science and technology organizations, including director of knowledge management /chief knowledge officer at Alberta Economic Development, director of strategic planning with the Alberta Science and Research Authority, and head of the resource management unit at the Alberta Research Council. Moran holds a PhD in geology from the Univ of Illinois and a MBA from the Univ of Alberta. He previously served on CRESTech’s program and environmental advisory committees and chaired the Advisory Council on the Centres of Excellence CRESTech review panel last year. Moran replaces Dr Ian Rowe who announced his intention to step down several months ago after 10 years with the OCE program (R$, June 25/01). Rowe says he intends to pursue new opportunities but will provide consulting services to the OCE....
