Dr Martha Crago has been appointed VP research and innovation at McGill. She is returning to her alma mater after two years at the Univ of Montreal where she served as vice-rector international and institutional relations and an eight-year stint as VP research at Dalhousie Univ (R$, March 11/08). Crago is currently a member of the Advisory Panel for the Review of Federal Support for Fundamental Science and chair of the U15 Research Committee of VPs of Research. She spent 35 years at McGill where she received her BA, MSc and PhD and stayed as a professor of human communication disorders specializing in language acquisition and socialization and later a senior administrator. While at Dalhousie, Crago created a strategic business plan and led several large-scale national research funding initiatives. The latter includes the creation of the Ocean Frontier Institute which secured $93.7 million in the latest competition of Canada First Research Excellence Fund (R$, September 22/16). She assumes her new duties July 1/17, replacing Dr Rosie Goldstein....
