Dr Howard Alper has been re-appointed as chair of the Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC) for a two-year term, effective December 9th. Alper was named the inaugural chair of STIC in 2007, which provides confidential advice to the minister of Industry and issues bi-annual reports on the state of Canada's science, technology and innovation system. He is also a professor of chemistry at the Univ of Ottawa and a member of the National Science Foundation's committee for international science and engineering. Alper holds a BSc from Sir George Williams Univ (now part of Concordia Univ) and a PhD from McGill Univ.
