Dr Gilles Patry has been appointed president and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), effective July 1st, succeeding Dr Eliot Phillipson who is stepping down after after six years at the helm. Patry is a professor of civil engineering with a joint appointment at the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) at the Univ of Ottawa — an institution with which he has had a long association. He was president and vice-chancellor from 2001 to 2008, VP academic from 1997 to 2001 and dean of the faculty of engineering from 1993 to 1997. Prior to the U of O, Patry held positions at École polytechnique de Montreal and McMaster Univ. While at U of O, Patry was instrumental in establishing SITE and forging private sector partnerships.
