Dr Feridun Hamdullahpur has been appointed VP academic and provost at the Univ of Waterloo for a five-year term beginning September 1st. Hamdullahpur will also become a professor in the department of mechanical and mechatronics engineering. He comes to Waterloo from Carleton Univ where he has served as interim VP academic and provost since 2007 during a period of turmoil and departures within the university's senior administration. Prior to that Hamdullahpur was Carleton's VP research and international relations (2000-2007), overseeing an explosion in external research funding from $28 million to $101 million. He previously held senior positions at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (which became DalTech-Dalhousie Univ), where he also earned a PhD in chemical engineering.
