The Communications Research Centre — the research arm of Industry Canada — has won its third Emmy Award for R&D on the standardization of loudness metering for use in broadcast audio. The CRC received the award January 12th at the 63rd annual Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards program in Las Vegas. Former CRC researcher Dr Gilbert Soulodre will receive the award along with Craig Todd of Dolby Laboratories Inc. The technology allows for more uniform loudness and is based on algorithms approximating human hearing acuity.
